Dear Single-Payer Advocate, We are experiencing one of those times in history when there is a convergence of interests in creating change. Which way the change goes depends on how pressure is exerted. Today it is clear that there is mounting pressure for changing the US healthcare system. The film "Sicko" has played an important part in that. Healthcare is listed as the second most important issue (after Iraq) of concern to Americans in presidential election polls. The Western Pennsylvania Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare has been working to add to the mounting pressure to change our healthcare system. We have had remarkable success in the past year and a half. But we must keep working because, as you know, we are fighting powerful interests. The only way these powerful interests can be defeated is by an informed and active American citizenry that lets elected officials know what they want. We are writing to ask you to provide immediate assistance for this important effort. Our work involves costs and those costs have been borne by a number of generous people, some of whom have made repeated donations. As we plan for future activities, we realize that we need to make a more concerted effort to raise funds, appealing to those who have not yet had an opportunity to give. We need your help. Please make a financial contribution to the "Western PA Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare" as soon as possible to ensure that our organization is able to continue the critical work to bring about positive, transformative change to the US healthcare system. Because we want the freedom to lobby our elected officials and candidates regarding single-payer, your donation will NOT be tax-deductible. Checks can be sent to: Western PA Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare Thank you so much for your commitment to this cause. Yours truly, The Steering Committee: David Hughes, Hal Sanders, Frank Kirkwood, Ed Cloonan, Georgia Berner, Mike Plaskon, Ed Grystar, Sandy Fox
