Western PA Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare

Working for passage of the "United States National Health Insurance Act", also known as,

the "Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act" (H.R. 676)

Steve O'Donnell supports H.R. 676, the bill in Congress creating a national, universal, single-payer health care plan.

O'Donnell
Candidate
Steve O'Donnell
(DEMOCRAT)

If elected, Steve O’Donnell will support and co-sponsor HR 676, “Expanded and Improved Medicare for All”.

O’Donnell has not accepted any payments to his campaign from insurance or drug company Political Action Committees, (PACs), (see www.fec.gov).

Murphy
Congressman
Tim Murphy
(REPUBLICAN)

Congressman Tim Murphy does not support HR 676.

He voted to enrich health insurance companies by turning parts of Medicare over to them, a move that may bankrupt Medicare before many of us are old enough to participate.

He voted against negotiating lower drug prices on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries.

Murphy’s political campaign committee has accepted large amounts of money from insurance company and drug company PACs (see www.fec.gov).

HR 676 – “EXPANDED AND IMPROVED
MEDICARE FOR ALL”

INSURANCE COMPANY HEALTH CARE

Everyone is covered.  Everyone.  Health care is publicly financed but privately delivered. Hospitals are not government owned, doctors are not government employees.

More than 45 million Americans without insurance and an even greater number whose insurance does not cover their expenses and will not protect them from bankruptcy.  More and more every year with no end in sight.

You pick your own doctors and hospitals.

Your insurance company limits your choice of doctors and hospitals.

Your doctors’ recommendations for all medically necessary care are respected. Care is comprehensive, including long term and in-home care.

Insurance companies over-rule doctors’ recommendations to preserve bottom line profit. Patient days and treatments are limited, whether or not you are better.

Eliminates the 30% overhead for insurance company profits, executive salaries, stock options, advertising, excessive paperwork, etc.  Administrative overhead reduced to 3 % (current Medicare overhead).

Health care dollars are spent for the huge insurance bureaucracies instead of paying for the health care professionals who prevent and cure illness and disease.

Because HR 676 removes the unnecessary and expensive insurance company middlemen, everyone is covered at less cost than current system.

At least twice the cost per person of other industrialized countries even though tens of millions of Americans are left out - and with poorer health outcomes.

Lower prices are negotiated with drug companies.

Drug prices continue to go up.  No end in sight.

No co-pays, no deductibles, no premiums, no out-of-pocket costs.

Ever-rising co-pays, deductibles and premiums.  No end in sight.

Family making $40,000/year would spend approximately $1320/year or $110/month in tax (through a 3.3% payroll tax).

Average family insurance premium is now $12,680. Co-pays and deductibles on top of that. Premiums rose 90% in last five years. No end in sight.

Employers who now providing health care benefits to employees would pay much less, making American businesses more competitive with foreign markets that have universal health care.

Ever-rising cost to employers cause companies to reduce or eliminate benefits for current and retired employees.  More jobs lost to countries that have taken for-profit insurance companies out of their health care systems.

Steve O’Donnell and HR 676: Good for the country; good for your family.

Tim Murphy and insurance company health care: Good for him and good for the insurance industry...but not good for our country or for your family’s future.
